ETA:Sadly I didn’t actually get to do this. I had a chance to attend a journalism conference by the Philippine Center for Investigative Journalism that week, and I took it. It was in Tagaytay and there was no way I could get back to the Metro in time for the fashion show. But they broke the Guinness world record, so yayz!
So a lot of us have Bucket Lists, right? I kinda have one. I also have what I call “The Apocalypse List” — a list of things I need to do before the apocalypse, because while some of us might survive the end of civilization, there are just some things you can’t do after the zombies/robots/bunnies take over the world.
Apocalypse List Item: Uh, model on a real fashion catwalk.
At 5’2.5″ and 140+ lbs, I’m hardly model material. But online store Ava.ph put a call out to their subscribers, asking us to sign-up if we were interested in joining their segment in the Glorietta Vibe fashion show on November 29, where they will attempt to break the Guinness world record for most people modeling on a catwalk. So I sent in my name, age, and full-body photo. Three days ago, I got the “Congratulations! You have been chosen to walk the New Glorietta Vibe catwalk!” email, with instructions. Apparently, we’ll be in the AVA segment, which meant we’ll be wearing the black AVA shirts and carrying Baggu and Rags2Riches bags on the runway. (Does this make me a Bag Lady in the show?) I’m totes excited. They said to wear shoes with heels of a minimum height of two inches. Hah. I’m bringing my four-inch heels to this party. (I hope I don’t trip. I don’t wanna be fashion roadkill.)
Apocalypse List Item: Break a Guinness world record.
Like I mentioned earlier, this fashion show will be an attempt of Glorietta Vibe to break the Guinness world record for most people modeling on a catwalk. Yes, it’s not the most relevant thing in the world, considering how much sh*t the world is in, but sometimes you gotta do something fun and irrelevant because it’s good for one’s mental health. Also, the world can do with more fun.
So, what are the rules of drawing up the Apocalypse List? Well, the items must definitely be things that are impossible to do after civilization has fallen. For example: star in a Hollywood movie, or go to space. I suggest being ambitious. Go crazy. I mean, I’m just a writer and an I.T. consultant, but somehow I managed to appear in a U.S. cable television show for three seconds, so after that all bets were off. Maybe you’re not a massive attention whore like I am, and appearing on TV or on fashion shows isn’t your thing, but, there are so many other possibilities out there. Run the New York marathon despite having Scoliosis. Win a yacht race. Save a life, or two. Remember: that cancer isn’t going to cure itself.
(Oh, by the way, the show will be on at 6pm on November 29 at the New Glorietta in Makati. It’s open to the public, so I hope a lot of you can come and watch. If you’re stuck at work or home, there will be a livestream of the show here starting at 5pm.)
